Stoney Creek Estates is located near Stoney Creek, as the name suggests, which is between River Road and Travilah Road in Potomac, Maryland. In 1990, Stoney Creek Road was designated a Rural and Rustic road by the County Council. The intent was to preserve the rural and rustic nature of the area, which has historically been agricultural or horse farmland. While this neighborhood provides a country feel, it still has the convenience of close proximity to River Road and I-495, which will get you nearly anywhere you need to go in the Washington, DC metro area.
The area on which Stoney Creek Estates was built was once a pumpkin farm and horse center owned by the Thompson family. When the nearly 100 acres were sold, the neighborhood was created and approximately 38 stately homes were built on the former farm’s spacious and lush lots.
The Stoney Creek area, which is near a 100 year old floodplain, is home to abundant wildflowers, woodland birds, fox, deer, waterfowl, and fish. The rural charm and gently rolling hills make this part of the northwest region of Potomac distinct from other areas down county.
